CLASS OF 1970
Events and Activities Following the Reunion
Our beloved, and hilarious classmate, Steve Hall provided the following information for your after-reunion consideration and enjoyment:
Fellow Vaqueros, if you are looking for a way to wind down after seeing a bunch of old people that used to be young people (how did they age so much when you didn't?), I have the answer (to winding down, not aging).
You head right back to downtown El Cajon. The same people who put on the car show you will see during our Ice Breaker put on Concerts every Friday night from May through September. They are in the park across the street from Downtown Cafe. The group playing on Friday 8/18 is the "Soul Persuaders". They bring this group back year after year because they are so good. As their website says "FINEST R&B, MOTOWN, SOUL, FUNK & BLUES! From the 60s to the present - From Motown to Yourtown".
It is so easy. You just bring a lawn chair, pick a spot, sit back and enjoy. They have a dance floor that is usually packed so you find people dancing all through the crowd. The concert starts at 6 and goes to at least 8. People know that if they are looking for my wife and I on Friday evenings just look here.
The name "Dinner and a Concert" is because they hope you either eat at one of the local restaurants or at one of the vendors at the concert. They generally have a food truck (American Retro), a hot dog stand (D'lish Dogs, my favorite), a snow cone stand and a funnel cake/deep fried Oreo stand. There are several good restaurants within 3 blocks to eat either before or after the concert.
If you are making a vacation out of the reunion and are in town on Friday 8/11 the group is Back To The Garden. They are one of the best of the series and come back year after year also.
Thank you Steve, aka, “Party Animal” Hall for sharing your insight into local activities and entertainment! Additionally, there are many other options to explore…..
